Our everyday consciousness, replete with memories, story lines, ongoing narrative, commentary, and projections about possible futures seems to be self-existing. Actually our consciousness is part of a process that arises in stages.
This process is described in Buddhist teachings as the 5 skandhas (translated as “bundles”, “heaps”, or “aggregates”). By breaking them down, intellectually and experientially, we can completely transform our relationship to our own mind and the world around us.
