First Thought, Best Thought

When we have some creative impulse, insight, or intuition, where does that come from? Senior Buddhist teacher, David Nichtern, explains a saying that his teacher Tibetan Buddhist master, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, used to use, “First Thought, Best Thought.” Trungpa Rinpoche wrote a book of poetry with the same name, and his student Allen Ginsberg used the phrase “First Thought, Best Thought” in his own work.
